Urban Dharma was created as a way to share general wisdom resources and personal insights regarding matters of mind, body, and the natural World. The aim is to facilitate an environment that promotes understanding, insight and self-improvement through the exploration, discussion and the sharing of wisdom, meditation and martial arts practice.
The philosophical, metaphysical and spiritual jungle of self-understanding is vast, dense, and can be confusing. Urban Dharma works to keep a lantern lit and illuminate a clearing amongst the jungle floor as to highlight the way that leads to peace, harmony and wellbeing - a way that has been well walked and remarked upon by those who have come before us - the shoulders of giants that we stand upon.
Humanity is a collective operation and our welfare depends on individuals taking care of themselves as to live a life that tends to peace, security, welfare and good health. It is therefore important that people are equipped with the tools to make sense of, understand and safeguard both mind and body. Mental and physical self-defence is key to peace of mind. Mastery begins with determining to understand the nature of ones mind, body, of feelings and of the natural World.
Urban Dharma is committed to using language that is down-to-earth, relevant to ones culture, clear, to the point, avoids creating confusion and facilitates understanding.
Self-knowledge is the beginning of freedom. Dharma is exploring the means that lead to wellbeing, health and harmony.
Urban Dharma also provides tailored 1-on-1 mentoring sessions specific to the needs of the individual.
My name is Jack and I have a deep love for all things wisdom, philosophy, martial arts, and meditation related to the point that I am motivated to share these gifts with others. I have spent many years exploring some of the 'big questions' and 'connecting the dots' which have served as the basis for my journey.
Strife is a part of life and determining to overcome strife as to live a life at peace has set me on the path of understanding and making sense of myself; today I am a person who successfully charters, walks upright on the path of wellbeing and works to point the way for others. This is the position from which I share and convey my insights from.
A key factor is deciding to make life work no matter what life throws at you - to live a life at peace, wellbeing and ease - this is the journey. This is what inspires me to share what I have realised with others as to relay what I have realised with others. Life is a make it or break it, having realised this, I am motivated to share what I have learned for the benefit of others, but most importantly, for the benefit of all of humanity and life on earth. Life is the most precious gift.
On my travels, I have come into contact with lineages and traditions of thought that are centred around wisdom and understanding. These range from psychology, metaphysics, philosophy, science, buddhism, taoism, philosophy and more. Each one has supported in shaping my own outlook of as well as understanding myself, the nature of suffering and natural world around me. What I discovered is that there is a common golden thread weaved through-out all of these areas of human thought which I aim to highlight through my communications.
Martial arts, dharma philosophy, contemplative thought, discourse and discussion have served as the basis for me in developing mental/physical understanding, resilience, strength and endurance that has led to the sense of peace that I am grateful to experience today. The underlying theme is to make sense of the nature of suffering and let go of its proximate causes as to live a life at peace is that which has led to the refinement, cultivation and developing of my reasoning capacity that has been pivotal in healing. This has led to the blossoming of wisdom, concentration and ethical noble conduct which are necessities for the path that leads to freedom.
Wisdom is universal and it only makes sense that varying lineages/traditions of thought are centred around it. Wisdom is universal. I work to share wisdom free of sectarian affiliation by operating from an experiential 'come and see' for yourself approach. I encourage individuals to use their own sense of reason to discern the way it is (the facts) instead of believing on the basis of blind faith. The focus of Urban Dharma is to 1) point to the path and 2) provide a personalised context of training to sensitive to the needs of the individual.
Learning, philosophy, meditation, wisdom, contemplation, justice, liberty, freedom, sustainable living, and martial arts are the very things that I love. These are the very tools that I have used to improve my life and incorporate as apart of my coaching framework which I wish to share with the world. My life's work is to help strengthen humanity, my fellow citizens on Planet Earth, and develop a harmonious vision of the World where humanity communes with nature. My objective is simple. To point to the path that leads to freedom, peace, harmony and wellbeing.
I have experience in: Wing Chun Kung Fu. Mindfulness Meditation (calm abiding and insight meditation), Mixed Martial Arts, Buddhist Thought and Doctrine, Taoist thought, and other wisdom traditions which I use as apart of my communication and training contexts. I have dived deep, found the gold I was seeking and now serve that to others who are 1) interested 2) may benefit.
